Class activities for Wednesday, September 27
***I was not in the classroom today due to an assessment and science meeting. The below activities are as planned and actual class activities may have varied from this post.***
Spelling: Students practiced making groups of word with long and short vowel sounds; this will be the skill tested tomorrow on the spelling test. Spelling worksheets are due tomorrow.
Cursive: Students are continuing to work on cursive pp. 14-17, due this Friday.
Reading: Students shared their illustrations from yesterday, then had Partner WEB, in which students took turns reading to each other.
Writing: Students continued to brainstorm ideas that they might like to write about this year and write them in their newly-assembled writer’s folder during this version of Writer’s Workshop that was shortened due to our library visit.
Math: Students discussed parallel lines and parallelograms. Homework is to complete Math Boxes 1.4 and the preceeding journal page, if not finished in class.
Science: Students finished the experiment, “Pulling Through.” Homework is to finish the Analyze and Conclude questions, if not done during class.
Social Studies: Students read about the Appalachians Mountains, rivers, waterfalls, forests and factories in the Northeast, and finished the WordSort from yesterday. See Tuesday’s post for the worksheet. Homework is to finish the WordSort, including the “brains on parade” section at the bottom instructing students to write what they learned about one of their word groupings.

Notes:
- We are looking for donations of cardboard tubes (toilet tissue, paper towel, wrapping paper) for class projects. The tubes can be sent in any time during the year; this project will be on-going. Thanks for any help you can give!
- There is still some space left on our Room 130 Pride board. Let’s fill that thing up! If your student hasn’t yet brought in three unique “objects” about themselves, then please send them so that they can be put on display for all to see. We are looking for things like photos, postcards, papers, medals, or little trickets that can be put in bags and hung on the board. The only limitation is size, and being able to be attached somehow to a bulletin board. These objects can remain with us the whole year, or rotated out whenever the student wants.
