Class activities for Wednesday, February 28 and Thursday, March 1

***A guest teacher was with us yesterday, and those activities are included in today’s post.***

Spelling: Yesterday and today students reviewed irregular verbs (catch-caught, run-ran) and homophones. The unit 8 worksheets are available here.

Cursive: We have reviewed the entire alphabet, upper and lower case. From now on, the weekly cursive assignment will be to write 10 cursive sentences of 7 or more words each. This assignment will be due Friday.

Reading: Yesterday was a reading day in Literature Circles, and today was a discussion day.

Writing: Students have been making final preparations for a piece of writing due tomorrow, March 2. Students should be publishing by now.

Math: Yesterday students reviewed symmetry and transformations (flips, turns and slides). Today students were introduced to a new method of multiplication called the partial products method. Click here for a simplified version of the partial products method. Look in the SRB for more details. Homework is to finish journal pp. 125 and 127.

Science: Students completed a Light Investigation Review yesterday. No science today due to art.

Social Studies: Students created quilt squares yesterday to learn about secret messages coded into quilts that helped slaves escape on the Underground Railroad. Today we read about how Michigan helped with the Underground Railroad. Homework is to complete worksheet p. 19.

Behavior Update:

  • Yellows: 2 magnets
  • Oranges: 0 magnets
  • Reds: 0 magnets

Ask your student what kind of choices they made.

  • Juice Volunteers: A new volunteer list will be sent home soon.
  • Upcoming Events: New writing piece due (March 2); Straits of Mackinaw field trip (May 11). See the class calendar for more information.
  • We are looking for donations of medium and long cardboard tubes (have plenty of short ones, thanks!) for class projects. The tubes can be sent in any time during the year; this project will be on-going. Thanks for any help you can give!
