Class activities for Friday, March 31

Reading: Today students planned a project to share their Literature Circles book with the class. We also had our paper and “coffee”. Students completed a non-fiction reading test in the afternoon.

Technology: We took our monthly STAR reading test today. Unfortunately, the results of the test did not help us advance towards our goal of an average reading level of 4.9. Your child can help our class reach our reading level goal by reading for 30 to 60 minutes each night.

We also had our workshop session about this week’s Internet task, related to Internet safety.

Spelling: We learned the common spelling patterns for /er/ words such as letter, harbor and sugar. We also looked at the “Stretch It” part of the spelling worksheets.

Students can practice spelling at home by studying the Level Four Core Word list and practicing words on their Words to Learn list.

Math: Students completed a 100 multiplication facts timed test today. The results showed that 77% of the class has passed their multiplication facts goal. Regular practice will help the remainder of the class to master this crucial math building block.

We will have a math test Tuesday over chapter 5.

Social Studies: We continued our cooperative learning Jigsaw project about the Three Fires people of Michigan. See Tuesday’s post for more information about the Jigsaw strategy.

Today, students worked in their expert groups to create test questions and finish up their plans about how they will teach their teams the information they have learned.

Students will teach their lessons on Monday. Visit the Social Studies resources page for more information, and stop in to the Social Studies Jigsaw blog archives for a peek at what students are working on.

Do you think that the spelling was easy on friday. Because to me it was a piece of cake. But I didn’t know that there were three different kinds of ways to make the

    ER/OR/AR.

Other then that it was very easy.
