Class activities for Friday, January 23

Spelling: Today was the Unit 6 spelling and skill test.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 62 and 64 were due today. We’ve finished our review of the upper and lowercase cursive alphabet. For the remainder of the year, students’ weekly assignment will consist of 10 cursive sentences, with seven or more words each.

Reading: Today Literature Circles groups practiced reading plays from their magazines.

Writing: Today was a publishing day for the students’ next piece of fiction, due today. Students also started prewriting for their own Choose Your Own Adventure fiction story, which will be the next piece of writing due February 13. Look for more information on this next week.

Math: Students completed a test about these concepts:

  • Multiplication and division facts;
  • Number stories;
  • Number sentences (true/false, with parentheses, solve for the missing number); and,
  • Logic problems.

Science: We completed an experiment today about locating hidden magnets. Each team was given a posterboard folder containing two magnets. Teams used iron objects, a compass, and iron filings, to find the location of the hidden magnets.

Social Studies: None today.

  • Hours with no yellow magnets (record: 31): 2
