Class activities for Thursday, May 12
Spelling: We reviewed common spelling patterns for the /er/ and /le/ sounds. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling and skill test.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: We looked at a fragment poem today, which was a poem of short lines (two to three words) describing a subject. Students also continued to work on their poetry. A collection of poems is due into portfolios on Monday, May 23.
Math: None today.
Science: Today was the final test day for the Jet Toy Challenge. The race will be next Thursday.
Social Studies: We learned about how the American Colonists became angry with Great Britain by comparing the situation to something that happened to us:
- We had a field trip planned to share poetry at Borders.
- The office cancelled our field trip, saying that all field trip money must be used to pay for 5th grade camp.
- The class became frustrated because of this new decision.
- This situation was similar to Great Britain enforcing new, harsher laws against the Colonists, leading the Colonists to grow upset.
