Class activities for Monday, May 16
Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: We talked about using line breaks to create white space in poems.
Students also continued to work on their poetry today. A collection of poems is due into portfolios on Monday, May 23.
Math: We reviewed multiplying fractions using area models and multiplication formulas. Homework is to complete Journal pp. 268-271.
Science: None today due to an extra Social Studies time.
Social Studies: We learned about several laws passed by Great Britain that angered the colonists:
- Proclamation of 1763: colonists couldn’t move beyond the Appalachian Mountains
- Quartering Act: colonists had to feed and house soldiers
- Stamp Act: colonists had to pay taxes on printed papers.
Homework is to finish Notebook p. 56 if not done in class.
