Class activities for Friday, March 30

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Spelling: None today due to the half day schedule.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: The final Literature Circles groups presented their projects today.

Writing: Students are working on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students started to collect information from the internet and save the information in Google Docs.

This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information to answer their research question at this point.

Math: None today due to the half day schedule.

Science: None today due to art.

Social Studies: None today due to the half day schedule.

Class activities for Thursday, March 29

Spelling: We reviewed irregular verbs today, verbs that are not made past tense by adding -ed.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to the Math Madness Final Four Tournament. Congratulations to Mrs. Johnston’s class, the fourth grade champions. Our class finished 4th in this multiplication facts tournament.

Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students started to collect information from the internet and save the information in Google Docs.

This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information to answer their research question at this point.

Math: None today due to the Math Madness Final Four Tournament.

Science: We learned that the earth rotates (turns) once in 24 hours and moves around the sun once in a year.

Social Studies: Students divided two maps of the United States into regions. Homework is to finish the regions map of not done in class.

Spelling: None today due to a character education lesson from Mrs. Alexander. We viewed a movie called, Now I Can Tell You My Secret, about a boy who is inappropriately touched by a neighbor. We discussed that, when a student is touched in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable, they have a right to:

  1. Say no;
  2. Get away fast to a safe place;
  3. Tell a trusted adult; or
  4. Keep telling trusted adults if some don’t believe you.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Two more groups presented their Literature Circles projects to the class today.

Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students developed a question for their topic and we went to the library to collect research. This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information to answer their research question at this point.

Math: Students practiced dividing using the partial quotients method of division. Homework is to finish Journal P10-4. Need a video review of partial quotients? Try here.

Science: We reviewed food chains and webs by playing Food Chain Rummy.

Social Studies: None today due to our math and reading skills time.

Spelling: We reviewed compounds words today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Two groups presented their Literature Circles projects to the class.

Writing: The next writing piece is the I-Search research project. This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be thinking about the topic of their research at this point.

Math: We are practicing showing division by drawing pictures of groups. Homework is to finish Journal R10-1 and P10-1.

Science: None today due to our math skills time.

Social Studies: We learned about how the United States is divided into regions based on different climates.

Reading: None today due to an extra time with science.

Writing: Students started working on the next writing project, the I-Search research project. This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be thinking about the topic of their research at this point.

Math: We reviewed estimating quotients by rounding and solving multiplication and division number stories. Homework is to finish Journal P9-3 (evens) and P9-5 (all).

Science: We finished learning about the sun and solar storms. We also wrote notes in our minibooks about the sun, moon and earth.

Social Studies: We learned about landform regions of the United States.
