Class activities for Wednesday, March 28
Spelling: None today due to a character education lesson from Mrs. Alexander. We viewed a movie called, Now I Can Tell You My Secret, about a boy who is inappropriately touched by a neighbor. We discussed that, when a student is touched in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable, they have a right to:
- Say no;
- Get away fast to a safe place;
- Tell a trusted adult; or
- Keep telling trusted adults if some don’t believe you.
Here is an overview and discussion guide for the movie. Here is another guide called, Keep Them Safe (PDF), with plenty of child safety tips.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Two more groups presented their Literature Circles projects to the class today.
Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students developed a question for their topic and we went to the library to collect research. This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information to answer their research question at this point.
Math: Students practiced dividing using the partial quotients method of division. Homework is to finish Journal P10-4. Need a video review of partial quotients? Try here.
Science: We reviewed food chains and webs by playing Food Chain Rummy.
Social Studies: None today due to our math and reading skills time.
