Class activities for Tuesday, October 30

Spelling: We used letter cards to form words and change them into other similar words.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on look for context clues to help understand difficult words.

Writing: Students used the suggestions from their last piece of writing to form writing groups. Students will stay in these groups until they receive their next writing grade so that they can work together to focus on ways to improve their writing. Here are the ideas that the writing groups will be focusing on:

  • Adding visual details
  • Adding dialogue
  • Focusing on one interesting idea
  • Adding dialogue, visual details and action to every scene
  • Finishing a piece of writing

The next piece of writing, a fictionalized personal narrative, will be due on Friday, November 2. Students should be revising at this point.

Math: Students practiced multiplying by one-digit numbers today. Homework is to finish Journal P3-6.

Science: Students dissected chicken legs by removing the skin, fascia, muscles, and tendons. Students also found fatty tissue, bone and bone marrow. Here are some photos and videos of the dissection.
