December 10th, 2013
Class activities for Tuesday, December 10
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 52-57 are due on Monday.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some students worked on visualizing and determining importance as reading strategies.
Writing: We reviewed when to make new paragraphs:
- new speaker
- new time
- new place
- new action
- new idea
We also talked about three interesting ways to begin a story, which is called a lead:
- a talking lead that starts with a character talking
- a visual lead that describes what a character or place looks like
- an action lead that describes an important action that happens at the beginning of the story
Our current piece of writing is a fiction story, due Monday, December 16. Your student should be revising by now.
Math: Students completed a math test today about place value and rounding.
Science: We played a game to review for tomorrow’s science test about electricity.
Social Studies: Students worked in groups to form a timeline of important events in Michigan’s automotive history. We also learned about how assembly lines use specialization and division of labor to make more products.
