Class activities for Wednesday, May 14

Spelling: Today we reviewed common spelling patterns for the /k/ and /s/ sounds, and noticed that both of those sounds can be created by the letter c.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.

Reading: We began the Essential Skills Social Studies test today and read Love That Dog.

Writing: Students started revising conferences today. A collection of poems will be due into portfolios on Monday, May 19 (new date). The poems will be shared at a Poetry Slam at Border’s Book Store on June 5.

Math: Students completed a math test today over division, and multiplication and division numbers stories.

Science: Students started working on their Space Fashion Show scripts. The Space Fashion Show will be Friday, May 23 at 1:30 pm. Click here for more information.

Social Studies: We learned that many pioneers moved to Michigan on the Erie Canal, and some of them were immigrants from Europe. So many people moved to Michigan after the Erie Canal was built that Michigan had enough people to become a state.

Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students were introduced to poems for two voices. We wrote one together.

A collection of poems will be due into portfolios on Monday, May 19 (new date). The poems will be shared at a Poetry Slam at Border’s Book Store on June 5.

Math: We reviewed for a math test tomorrow over division and multiplication and division numbers stories.

Science: We played food chain rummy (see photo below) to review food chains and food webs.

Social Studies: We learned that the Erie Canal connected the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Erie and made it easier for people to move to Michigan.

Spelling: We reviewed the Unit 11 spelling worksheets today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.

Reading: None today due to an extended science time.

Writing: None today due to an extended science time.

A collection of poems will be due into portfolios on Friday, May 16. The poems will be shared at a Poetry Slam at Border’s Book Store in June.

Math: None today due to an extended science time.

Science: We learned about how the moon and earth move in space and took notes in our minibooks. Homework is to complete an Investigation Review crossword puzzle. We also watched a DVD about how the earth is uniquely suited in the universe for life and scientific discovery:


Social Studies
: We viewed the photos and videos of our Mackinac trip.
