Last day of school, Thursday, June 17

We had a great time our last day of fourth grade! Everyone had their fill at our potluck picnic. Then we ran ourselves silly playing games in the courtyard!

Thanks to all the families that brought a dish to pass, helped with food preparation and cleanup, and helped with the games.

I wish everyone all the best over the summer and into fifth grade! We’ll make our fifth grade year even better!

Today was a “wrap-up” day for leftovers in class. Everyone did a great job finishing up learning about fractions in math! We also finished up some end of the year assessments in Science and Social Studies.

Spelling: No new spelling assignments for fourth grade.

Cursive: No new cursive assignments for fourth grade.

Reading: None today.

Writing: No new writing assignments for fourth grade.

We also worked on publishing our novels. Most students finished designing their cover and made their novels available for sale. Visit Lulu and search for a student’s name to view or purchase a book! (Note that some books take 24 hours to appear in Lulu’s search engine).

Here’s our first published book of fourth grade:

Math: We reviewed improper fractions and mixed numbers, practiced ordering and comparing fractions, and learned how to make equivalent fractions.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: No new Social Studies assignments for fourth grade.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to planting seeds for our Courtyard Vegetable Garden.

Writing: Today was the last work day for the Find It, Decide It project, due Friday, June 11.

Resources:

Math: We reviewed making fractions using pattern blocks. Students also learned how to change a mixed number into an improper fraction.

Homework is to finish Journal pp. 196-198 if not done in class.

Science: We continued to learn that fossils provide clues about historical life and habitats.

Social Studies: None today.
