Class activities for Friday, September 7

Friday, September 7th, 2012

We wrapped up our opening week tasks today:

  • Today was Team Day! Students worked in teams to solve challenges. The class did well persevering through difficulties and not giving up. All the challenges were solved! Thanks to all the family members that helped today.
  • We created a list of Top Teamwork Tricks.
  • Students received a lot of folders, books, notebooks and other gear.

Class activities for Thursday, September 6

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

We continued to work through opening week tasks today:

  • We set our class goals for the year. View them at our Data Center.
  • Students worked in teams to build straw towers. The tallest tower that withstood students trying to blow it down won. This was a review about the frustrations of working in a team, but also the rewards. View the pics!
  • We played a game called, “Win as Much as You Can.” This was also a game that taught cooperation in a group, but also that it better to work with other teams than against them. In this game, when teams tried to beat the other teams, most teams lost. But if all the teams would have worked together, then would have won more than if they had just competed against each other. This year, it will be important to help all each other out, even other students sitting at other teams.

Welcome back to school! Today was filled with get-to-know-you and how-have-you-been activities and procedures. Here are some highlights:

  • We played a game to share some news from the summer.
  • Students took the Mr. Howd test; most failed! And this was the second time for most students!
  • Students made locker signs and chose lockers and partners. We’ll do this tomorrow.
  • We took a tour of our new planners. Parents, look in the planners for a bunch of paperwork for you to fill out. That’s your homework!
  • We reviewed class jobs.
