Class activities for Thursday, February 21

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on making inferences and summarizing as reading strategies.

Writing: Students started to draft their persuasive letter.

Our current writing project is a persusive essay in the form of a letter. Each student will select an issue facing our country and will share their ideas on how to improve the issue. This persuasive letter is due Wednesday, February 27.

Math: We practiced making equivalent fractions today. Homework is Journal P9-1.

Science: We reviewed yesterday’s MiniQuiz about our recent science experiments.

Social Studies: Students read and wrote notes about the original English colonies. Homework is to finish the reading notes on notebook pp. 40-41 if not finished in class.

Spelling: Students finished making their Words to Learn lists from words missed on the last spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students continued to research information for their persuasive letter topic. They were also given a checklist to help them plan their letter.

Our current writing project is a persusive essay in the form of a letter. Each student will select an issue facing our country and will share their ideas on how to improve the issue. This persuasive letter is due Wednesday, February 27.

Our Feb Factor Valentine’s party was so good, it was scary, literally! We passed out our cards and ate sloppy joes, crackers, fruit and veggies.

Feb Factor games included sticking conversation hearts, slurping strawberry banana pudding, muching cranberry jelly, passing love notes, tossing bouncy balls and sticking conversation hearts! Here are some pics and videos!

Thanks to everyone who donated food and supplies; we had more than enough! A big thanks to all the family members that helped with serving food, cleanup and games!

Today, we reviewed American values, such as justice, patriotism, equality, liberty, etc. These values can serve as details to use to persuade the readers about an idea.
