Class activities for Friday, May 31

Spelling: We learned that the –er suffix can mean “one who,” as in a painter or teacher, or “more,” as in darker or quicker.

Cursive: Cursive is completed for the year.

Reading: A final student group presented their Literature Circles play to the class. Today was also a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: The Find It, Decide It technology and research project was due today. This is the final writing project for the year.

Math: Students practiced using illustrations to find the volume of a prism by counting the number of cubes in the prism. Homework is to finish Journal P12-4.

Science: We reviewed the analyses from this week’s activities about the different types of object in space and the different types of planets in our solar system.

Social Studies: Students completed a test about the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: A student group presented their Literature Circles play to the class.

Writing: Students continued to research and draft their Find It, Decide It technology and research project. This project is due Friday, May 31.

Math: Students practiced visualizing the top, side and front view of a three-dimensional figure. Homework is to finish Journal P12-2.

Science: Students presented their Jet Toy Challenge presentations to visiting engineers, then they toured some cars the engineers brought!

Social Studies: Students seemed to lack energy and focus for social studies today, so it was assigned as homework. Homework is to read and finish notes for sections 14.4-14.7. A test about the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution will be tomorrow; here is a practice test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today. Students used this time to complete presentations for their Jet Toy Challenge projects.

Writing: Students continued to research and draft their Find It, Decide It technology and research project. This project is due Friday, May 31.

Math: We practiced comparing solid figures by looking at how many edges, faces and vertices each had. Homework is to finish Journal P12-1.

Science: Students worked on an activity about matching clues to planets in our solar system. Homework is to finish activity 89 and the analysis.

Social Studies: None today due to extra writing time.

Writing: None today. The Find It, Decide It technology and research project is due Friday, May 31.

Math: Students worked on a test about multiplying and dividing mixed numbers.

Science: Students completed an activity to learn about different types of space objects. Homework is to work on analysis questions 1 and 3 on p. 19.

Social Studies: We started to learn about the government that was formed after the Revolutionary War. Homework is to finish the reading notes for sections 14.2-14.3.

Writing: Students continued to research and draft their Find It, Decide It technology and research project. This project is due Friday, May 31.

Math: We reviewed for Tuesday’s math test about multiplying and dividing mixed numbers. A practice test can be found on math book p. 302.

Science: We reviewed the analysis from the last science experiment about how extreme tides are caused by the gravity of the sun and moon when they are lined up during new and full moons.

Social Studies: Students completed a test about the American Revolution.
