April 25th, 2012
Class activities for Wednesday, April 25
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading assembly to celebrate the reading month activities from March.
Writing: Students continued to work on the I-Search research project by working on their digital presentation using Google Docs.
This informational project will be presented on Friday, April 27 at our I-Search Conference. Family members are welcome to attend (see the schedule)!
Math: We reviewed equivalent fractions today. We also learned about how to compare two fractions by using fractions strips to show pictures of the fractions, or by seeing which fractions are closer to whole or to one-half. Homework is to finish Journal P 11-6. Also, I’ve asked students to work on Khan Academy for at least 60 minutes per week. I’ll check each Friday to see if students have achieved this goal. Khan Academy is a great way for students to practice math skills we learn in class, or to learn new ones!
Science: We learned from The Privileged Planet that there are about 20 different ingredients that are needed for a planet to support life. The chance that even one planet will have all the necessary ingredients is one planet in 1,000 trillion! This seems to say that the earth is rare and is uniquely suited in the universe for life and scientific discovery. See Monday’s post for the trailer.
Social Studies: None today due to our math skills time.
