Class activities for Friday, January 12

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Spelling: Today students created a Words to Learn list by correcting the words they missed on the last spelling test. This list is a personal spelling list for the next test. Visit the spelling page to download a copy of the unit 6 spelling worksheets.

Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 54-56 were reviewed today.

Reading: We continued our oral reading fluency project using picture books. This project involves practicing reading picture books with voice and expression, varying volume and pacing, to keep the reader interested (the opposite of this is to read with a boring, robotic, chunky and monotonous voice). We will then read the books to three to five-year-olds in Children’s Garden.

Today we watched an actoress read My Rotten Red Headed Older Brother on the BookPALS Storyline Online website.

Writing: Students continued to revise their instructions for recreating their monsters. The final illustration and published directions page will be due January 19. Search class book in the search box for previous posts on this project.

Math: Today was a MiniQuiz over fractions, decimals and comparing decimals, and students also participated in Math Skills.

Science Inquiry: Today students looked at the discoveries of other student scientists. We also focused today on creating testable questions, and then doing tests to see what the answer would be.
