June 5th, 2007
Class activities for Tuesday, June 5
Spelling: We used spelling time for a group to share a poster about the dangers of tobacco. There will be no more spelling activities for this year.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.
Reading: We used this time to continue our discussion of the math warmup and the tobacco poster.
Writing: Students worked on their class newspaper article, which is due into portfolios this Friday, June 8.
Also, students will share a few of their poems at our Poetry Slam at Borders this Thursday. Chaperones are needed and family members are welcome to attend.
Math: We reviewed converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers, learned how to add and subtraction fractions, and started to practice comparing fractions. Homework is to complete 20 addition and subtraction fraction problems from a worksheet, to complete eight problems written on the back of the worksheet, and to sort fraction cards as instructed on Journal p. 213. Students started all of these assignments in class and they’re homework if not finished.
Science: We reviewed the water cycle and made diagrams.
Social Studies: None due to extra math time.
