Today in class we continued to learn more about each other and the class:

We played Two Truths and a Lie to learn more about each other.

We made “I’d Rather Be…” bumber stickers about our favorite things in school.

We practiced walking in line and the team captains practiced helping their line be the best they can be.

We made our class rules, well rule. First, we wondered what class would be like with no rules at all, and decided it would be a chaotic, unpleasant place to be. So each team created what they thought our class rules should be. We ended up with 48 class rules. But we noticed that all the rules seemed to match up with our High Fives: respect, responsibility, kindness, honesty and courage. We decided to make just one class rule: Follow the High Fives.

We played People Bingo to get to know each other (Feel free to click on the link, download and play at home!)

We started working on skits to teach the class how to treat our class library books.

Behavior Update:

  • Yellows: 1 magnet
  • Oranges: 0 magnets
  • Reds: 0 magnets

Ask your student what kind of choices they made.

    • a fridge folder for leftovers–left over work that stays in their desk to be finished on another day
    • a planner, which students will use to record homework and the day’s activities
  • Today was the first day in Spanish
  • We talked about Team jobs, team points, and voted on team captains
  • We took a tour of the cafeteria, office, playground and inside recess to discuss positive behavior in each area

Class activities for Tuesday, September 4

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Today in class we played 30-Second Squirt and “Fruit,” games to learn about each other and to get to know names. Students also completed the Mr. Howd Test. Most failed, but I still rewarded them with a piece of candy. I told them that that was the last time they would be rewarded for not studying and preparing. We also went to a kick-off assembly in the large gym.

Students took home the first-day folder today. In it you will find plenty of paper work (that’s your homework!) to be returned in the enclosed envelope. I also included login information for SnapGrades and a form on which to write your email address and return to me.
