Class activities for Monday, October 1
Spelling: None today. We used the time to review last Friday’s reading test. We stressed that it will take a thinker, not a guesser, to earn top grades on test and homework. Or if students guess, go one step further and check back to find the correct answer. Some students were guessers, not guess and checkers, so that affected their reading test scores. We practiced looking for clues in the questions, then looking for those same question word clues in the story. Find the clues, find the answer.
Students have the Unit 1 spelling worksheets (download here), which will be due at the time of the spelling test this week. Find more information, including spelling lists, by clicking on the Spelling link. A spelling test will be this week.
Cursive: Cursive pp. 23-25 were made available today and are due Friday.
Reading: We practiced making connections (“that reminds me of …”) using our read aloud book, A Long Way from Chicago.
Writing: None on Mondays due to technology.
The next piece of writing is due on October 12.
Math: We reviewed some of the concepts taught by last week’s guest teacher, including symmetry, flips, turns and slides. Homework is to complete Puzzle Page 32 about the properties of geometric figures.
Science: We added more notes about magnets into our minibooks.
Social Studies: We used this time to work on the reading test review and practice.
