April 29th, 2008
Class activities for Tuesday, April 29
Spelling: We reviewed the soft-syllable endings for the /er/ sound: –er, –ar, and-or.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.
Reading: Students previewed new Literature Circles books today.
Writing: Today was the beginning of a unit on poetry. We talked about the three ingredients of a poem:
- imagery (visualizing and feeling)
- music (a rhythm or beat)
- emotion
Not all poems have all three of these elements, but all good poems have at least one. A collection of poems will be due into portfolios on Friday, May 16. The poems will be shared at a Poetry Slam at Border’s Book Store in June.
Math: Students played a game to practice division. Homework is to complete five division problems and have a parent check them.
Science: We completed an experiment today to see how much smaller the moon is than the earth. Homework is to complete the experiment analyze and conclude questions if not finished in class.
Social Studies: We watched some video clips showing some of the reasons for the American Revolution.
