Class activities for Thursday, May 7
Spelling: We learned that many English words come from Latin or Greek roots. Today, we learned that vocare is Latin for “to call,” and shows up in vocation, vocal, voice advocate, provoke, and revoke.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.
Reading: A final group presented their Literature Circles magazine play with the class.
Writing: We talked about a story can be turned into a poem by adding imagery, music or emotion to the story. Students continued to work on poetry. Our next portfolio piece will be a collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.
Math: Students continued to divide with the partial-quotients method of division. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 150-152.
Science: We finished learning about the sun today.
Social Studies: Students started working on review pages in class. Homework is to finish review pp. 10, 12.
