Class activities for Friday, September 24
Spelling: We reviewed how to use quotation marks to show a direct quote that a speaker is actually saying.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays. This week’s assignment is due on Monday due to the power outage.
Reading: We reviewed the results from our recent STAR reading test and discussed our ambitious reading goal for this year. Students also received a parent letter to take home. See our results and goal below:
Writing: We reviewed the idea of focusing a writing topic on a time, theme or best part. Students also continued to work on their personal narrative started last week.
A personal narrative is due Wednesday, September 29 (new date due to the power outage). Students should be revising at this time. Please note that a personal narrative is a story that includes your student. Narratives have characters, plot and settings.
Math: We reviewed prime and composite numbers today. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 15-17 started in class.
Science: We continued to review electricity topics learned in fourth grade, focusing today on electricity, magnetism and states of matter.
Social Studies: We looked at an image of an Inuit family to discover clues about how they adapted to their environment.
