Class activities for Tuesday, November 30

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Spelling: Students worked on their Words to Learn list of words to study for the next spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Three groups presented their Literature Circles projects today.

Writing: None today due to Technology.

Our next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Monday, December 17. Students should be prewriting at this time.

Math: Students played a game to practice measuring and drawing angles. We also reviewed different types of triangles: equilateral, isosceles and scalene. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 77, 81.

Science: Students completed a test over these ideas:

  • Body systems;
  • Body systems working together;
  • Genetics and traits; and,
  • How organisms use behavior and traits for survival.

Studies: We started learning about how and why Christopher Columbus came to the New World.

Class activities for Monday, November 29

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Spelling: None today due to extra time with Literature Circles.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Students continued working on Literature Circles projects with the goal of sharing their books with the class. Groups will start presenting tomorrow.

Writing: We talked about writing realistic dialogue that sounds like the characters speaking.

Our next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Monday, December 17. Students should be prewriting at this time.

Math: We reviewed opposite and adjacent angles, and drawing and measuring angles. Homework is to finish StudyLink 3.5.

Science: We reviewed for a science test tomorrow over these ideas:

  • Body systems;
  • Body systems working together;
  • Genetics and traits; and,
  • How organisms use behavior and traits for survival.

Studies: We started talking about how European Explorers had a “first come, first served” attitude with the New World.

Today we focused on our Thanksgiving blessings. We listened and danced to the Shaker song, Simple Gifts:

We then wrote down all of the things we are thankful for (our Thanksgiving blessings). Some students filled a page and started onto the back.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Students continued working on Literature Circles projects with the goal of sharing their books with the class. Groups will continue to work on this project this week and next.

Writing: None today due to art.

Our next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Monday, November 29. Students should be editing at this time.

Math: Students learned about opposite and adjacent angles, and used their properties to solve problems. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 75-76.

Science: Students received new science books and notebooks. Please note that students will need a plastic poly folder and a blue or black pen for science from now on.

Studies: Students completed a test over European Explorers.

Writing: We reviewed how to prevent run-on sentences. Today was also a revising day in writing.

Our next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Monday, November 29. Students should be revising at this time.

Math: Students worked on a MiniQuiz about measuring and drawing angles.

Science: We reviewed genetics and survival.

Studies: We reviewed for tomorrow’s test over European Explorers. Here’s an online study guide.
