December 16th, 2010
Class activities for Thursday, December 16
Spelling: None today due to extra time with math.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: None today due to practicing for the 5th grade musical.
Writing: None today due to art.
Our next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Monday, December 20 (new date). Students should be revising at this time.
Math: We learned that there are are least three ways to determine the sum of angles of any polygon:
- Draw the polygon and split into triangles. Count the triangles and multiply by 180 degrees (the number of degrees in a triangle).
- Draw a triangle. Keep adding on triangles until the number of sides is equal to the polygon in question. Count the triangles and multiply by 180.
- Count the number of sides and subtract 2. Multiply by 180. This is the math pattern that leads to the same result as the drawings.
Science: We reviewed the last activity and homework questions from last week about an experiment designed to examine the cause of Pellagra, a vitamin-deficiency disease.
Social Studies: We reviewed the homework from last week about the routes of various explorers.
