Class activities for Thursday, March 31

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Spelling: None today due to our play performances in the morning.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: We performed our play today to about 15 classes from Anderson and McGrath!

Writing: None today due to our play performances in the morning.

Students are continuing to work on their next piece of writing, the I-Search project. Students will research a topic and create a digital presentation using Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com).

Here are more details about the I-Search project. Our general timeline :

  1. Week 1: Collect research
  2. Week 2: Select research, plan presentation, start draft of presentation
  3. Week 3: Finalize presentation, present at our I-Search Conference at the end of April

Math: We played a game to review fractions, decimals and percents. We’ll have a test over these ideas after spring break.

Science: We started an experiment about measuring the speed of an object.

Social Studies: None today due to a Physical Education and Nutrition lesson.

Lightning Larry Play:  Our performance is tonight at 6:30 pm!. Invite friends and family! Students, be here at 6:00 pm tonight in costume and with your scripts!

Spelling: We had a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: We practiced reading our scripts today.

Writing: Students planned their next piece of writing, the I-Search project. Students will research a topic and create a digital presentation using Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com).

Here are more details about the I-Search project. Our general timeline :

Math: Students reviewed  fractions, decimals and percents and multiplication today. Homework is to finish Journal p. 151, Boxes 1 and 2, and p. 153.

Science: We reviewed the last activity about vehicle safety.

Social Studies: None today due to library.

Lightning Larry Play:  Today was our last practice! Performances are March 31 at 9:30, 10:15 and 6:30 pm. Invite friends and family! Students, wear your costume to school tomorrow and bring a change of clothes, or there will be some time to change in the morning. Be on time to school and be here at 6:00 pm tomorrow in costume for the evening show!

Spelling: We had a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We started prewriting for our next piece of writing, and informational research project. Look for more information soon.

Math: Students reviewed  fractions, decimals and percents today by playing a game.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: We reviewed the choices slaves had to make when they reached the American Colonies.

Lightning Larry Play:  We are almost finished with the set! The next practice is Wednesday, March 30, from 4-5 pm and it is our final dress rehearsal! Performances are March 31 at 9:30, 10:15 and 6:30 pm. Invite friends and family!

Spelling: None today. We will have a spelling and skill test tomorrow.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: We read our play script today.

Writing: Today was the final work day for the  novel project. Our next piece of writing will be an informational presentation. Look for more information soon.

Math: We reviewed fractions, decimals and percents today. Students also completed a MiniQuiz.

Science: Students finish the second part of an activity about analyzing vehicle safety. Homework is to finish Activity 73, including the analysis questions.

Social Studies: Students learned about the dilemma that faced slaves when they reached the American Colonies: they could try to run away, try to slow the work down, or just do their assigned work. Homework is to finish Notebook p. 48.

Lightning Larry Play:  We are almost finished with the set! The next practice is Tuesday, March 29, from 4-5 pm. The rest of the practices are dress rehearsals! Students, wear your costume! Performances are March 31 at 9:30, 10:15 and 6:30 pm.

Spelling: None today due to Human Growth and Development class with Mr. Keilitz and Mrs. Alexander.

Reading: None today due to the half day schedule.

Writing: Students worked on their novel project today. They also turned in their Letter to the Editor persuasive writing piece. Homework is to finish their novel by Monday, March 28.

Math: None today due to the half day schedule.

Science: Today was the final day of Human Growth and Development class.

Social Studies: None today due to the half day schedule.
