Class activities for Monday, November 21
Spelling: We practiced identifying homophones and digraphs.
Cursive: Cursive pp. 39, 40, and 44 are available and due Monday.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups practiced synthesizing the most important meaning as a reading strategy.
Writing: We talked about using breaking a text into paragraphs today. Students also worked on revising conferences today.
The next piece of writing is a fiction story, due Monday, November 28. Students should be revising at this time.
Math: We reviewed the value of digits in different place values and learned that numbers next to each other differ by a factor of 10. Homework is to finish Journal P3-2.
Science: We reviewed our last experiment about using switches in circuits. We learned that circuits in which electricity is flowing are called closed circuits. Open circuits are those in which electricity cannot flow.
Social Studies: We reviewed these ideas:
- Specialization happens when people or places become good and special jobs or skills; and,
- Division of labor is a way to divide a job into steps in order to finish it better or faster.
