Class activities for Monday, January 30
Spelling: None today due to a character education lesson from Mrs. Alexander about bullying.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Friday.
Reading: Students worked on plays to practice reading with fluency using correct speed, tone and volume. Students will begin performing the plays tomorrow.
Writing: Students continued to work on their next writing piece, a Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook. Students will write a fiction adventure story with choices that the reader can make. Each choice can change how the story turns out. The project is due Monday, February 6. Students will publish their adventure as a website at sites.mrhowd.com. Students should be drafting their adventure story at this time. See below for more details.
Choose Your Own Adventure Resources

- Play Zork, a text-based computer game. Here is a list of commands and directions. Here is a map of the dungeon if you get stuck or lost.
- Find a complete list of resources here.
Math: We practiced extended multiplication facts today. Extended facts are just basic facts multiplied by 10, 100, 1000, or so on. For example, to multiply 8 * 300, just multiply 8 * 3 and then add two zeroes to the answer. Homework is to complete Journal P5-2.
Science: We started to learn that volume is the measure of space that matter takes up. One way to measure volume is with a graduated cylinder.
Social Studies: Students completed a district economics test today.
