November 1st, 2012
Class activities for Thursday, November 1
Spelling: We reviewed different meanings of the -er suffix:
- Person who, as in painter or teacher
- More, as in higher or faster
- Or part of the base word, as in letter
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Students started to plan Literature Circles projects to share their books with the class.
Writing: Today was a work day in writing. Some students worked on editing or publishing.
The next piece of writing, a fictionalized personal narrative, will be due on Friday, November 2. Students should be publishing at this point.
Math: We practiced multiplying by using the distributive property to break larger numbers into pieces. For example, 73 x 6 can be broken into 70 x 6 and 3 x 6. The smaller pieces are easier to multiply and can be added to get the same answer as the original problem.
Science: Students examined dissected sheep hearts and lungs. Here are some pictures and videos.
Social Studies: Students completed a social studies test about American Indian Cultural Regions today.
