Class activities for Tuesday, November 20

Spelling: We reviewed common spelling patterns for the /k/ sound: c, ck, k, ch, qu.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a shortened reading day in Literature Circles due to art.

Writing: We talked about “cutting to your lead,” which means to start the story at an interesting part, rather than start slow and then write the interesting part later. Readers will be more interested in the lead is interesting.

The next piece of writing, a fiction story, will be due on Monday, November 26. Students should be  revising or editing by now.

Math: Students practiced thinking about reasonable answers. For example, if there are 32 apples, and bags that can fit 6 apples, 5 bags can be completely filled, but 6 bags would be needed to hold all the apples. Reasonable answers must make sense and match the question being asked. Homework is to finish Journal P4-3.

Science: We learned about the two types of cells of the reproductive system and how they combine to produce new living organisms. Homework is to finish the reproductive system review page.

Social Studies: None today due to our math skills practice time.
