December 6th, 2012
Class activities for Thursday, December 6
Spelling: We learned about rules for making plural words.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Students have finished reading their magazines. Today, groups started practicing plays they will read to the class to practice fluency.
Writing: Today was a revising work day.
The next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Friday, December 14. Students should be revising their draft at this point.
Math: We learned about how to use patterns to divide larger numbers. For example, the problem 250 / 50 can be written as 25 tens / 5 tens. Now that the problem is rewritten, it’s easier to see that the problem is the same as 25 / 5, so the answer is 5. Rewriting division problems using tens and hundreds makes the problem easier to divide. Homework is to finish Journal P5-1.
Science: We completed an activity to model how traits are passed from one generation to the next. Homework is to finish the Generation of Traits experiment.
Social Studies: None today due to a music aptitude test from Marshall Music.
