Class activities for Monday, April 15

Monday, April 15th, 2013

Spelling: We practiced common patterns for the /oo/ and /yu/ sounds: oo, u, ue, ew.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to extra time with science.

Writing: Students worked on their I-Search research project by starting  their presentation. This informational project will be due Friday, April 26, when students present their findings during our I-Search Conference. Students should be working on their presentations at this point.

Math: None today due to our technology time.

Science: We completed an experiment about look at how speed is shown on a motion graph. Homework is to finish analysis questions 1-5 on pp. 14-15.

Social Studies: We learned about how religion was dry and lifeless for people in colonial times before the Great Awakening started a religious revival. Homework is to finish the “Before Great Awakening” part of notebook p. 54.

Class activities for Friday, April 12

Friday, April 12th, 2013

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: The final groups presented their Literature Circles projects to the class.

Writing: Students worked on their I-Search research project by collecting information, creating an outline, or starting their presentation. This informational project will be due Friday, April 26, when students present their findings during our I-Search Conference. Students should be finish their research and outline at this point.

Math: Today was our Math Madness Final Four tournament. Our class won their first round game to reach the championship game! We were defeated 56-52 in a very close game with numerous lead changes. It was a game made exciting by everyone practicing and learning their division facts!

Science: We reviewed our last experiment about calculating speed and how speed is affecting by other variables, including height.

Social Studies: None today.

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Two groups presented their Literature Circles projects with the class.

Writing: Today, we talked about how to make an outline as a plan in creating a presentation. Some students started to outline information that they’ve collected.

Students also worked on their I-Search research project by collecting information about their topic. This informational project will be due Friday, April 26, when students present their findings during our I-Search Conference. Students should be researching their presentation topic or organizing their information at this point.

Math: We practiced drawing pictures and writing equations to help solve number stories. Homework is to finish Journal P10-7.

Science: Students designed an experiment to test how height of a ramp affected speed.

Social Studies: We continued to learn about life in colonial Williamsburg.

Reading: Students worked on projects to share their last Literature Circles book with the class. Presentations of the projects will begin tomorrow.

Writing: Students worked on their I-Search research project by collecting information about their topic. This informational project will be due Friday, April 26, when students present their findings during our I-Search Conference. Students should be researching their presentation topic at this point.

Math: None today due to extra time with social studies.

Science: None today due to extra time with social studies.

Social Studies: Students learned about life during colonial times. They completed activities about colonial plantations, taverns, shoemaker’s shops, the government, the school and the church. Homework is to finish notebook pp. 52-53 if not finished in class.

Spelling: Students finished making their Words to Learn lists from words missed on the last spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Students worked on projects to share their last Literature Circles book with the class.

Writing: Students worked on their I-Search research project by collecting information about their topic. This informational project will be due Friday, April 26, when students present their findings during our I-Search Conference. Students should be researching their presentation topic at this point.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Homework is to finish Journal P10-6.

Science: Students completed an experiment to calculate the speed of a toy cart moving on a track. Homework is to finish analysis questions 1, 3, 5, 6 on p. 10.

Social Studies: None today due to our math and reading skills practice time.
