Class activities for Wednesday, May 15

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We learned that one way to organize a poem is to use fragments. Here is fragment poem we wrote last year:

Bus Ride to Mackinac

Kids talking
Children playing
People waiting
Watching movies
Playing card games
Bus bumping
Sun rising
Excitement growing
Bridge appearing
People cheering!

Students also worked on their poem collection today. A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 17.

Math: We practiced dividing whole numbers by fractions. Homework is to finish Journal P11-9.

Science: We reviewed the analysis questions from the last two experiments. We also used solar panels to test how direct and indirect rays of the sun affect energy. We found that the solar panel produced more electricity when it was pointed directly at the sun. That shows that summer is warmer because the sun shines more directly to earth in that season.

Social Studies: Students learned about writing and approving the Declaration of Independence. Homework is to finish the reading notes for sections 12.4 and 12.5.
