Class activities for Monday, February 9

Monday, February 9th, 2015

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: None today due to our technology time. We used Duolingo to practice Spanish. We’ll be starting a new project this week.

Math: Students worked on a partner math test today about division. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Students worked on a district science test today about studying people scientifically.

Social Studies: Students shared presentations today about the reason for founding, geography, climate, and government of different English colonies.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles and a reading skills day with MobyMax or AR.

Writing: Students worked on publishing their essay today. The literary essay will be due Friday, February 6. We’ll be starting a new project next week.

Math: Today was a final division practice day using Khan Academy. We’ll have a partner test about this topic next week. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We completed our final topic in our unit on studying people. We’ll have a MiniQuiz about what we’ve learned next week.

Social Studies: None today due to extra time with science.

Notes:

  • Our Feb Factor Valentine’s Party is next Friday, February 13 from 12:30-3:30. Here’s our volunteer and guest list.
  • Third marking period report cards are available at StudentVue.
  • Middle school course request sheets are due February 13.
  • Our class will be performing a play in March, The Legend of Lightning Larry. All students will have a part and will need to be at some after school practices and the performance.

Spelling: We reviewed famous spelling patterns for the /j/ sound: ge, dge.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on visualizing as a reading strategy.

Writing: Students worked on editing their essay today. The literary essay will be due Friday, February 6.

Math: We practiced division by two-digits divisors that also have two-digit quotients. Students also practiced division using Khan Academy. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today due to extra social studies.

Social Studies: Students worked in groups to learn about one of the English colonies. They also completed a group presentation about their colony. Homework is finish the reading notes about the group colony.

Writing: Students worked on revising their essay today. Homework is to finish revising tonight.

A literary essay will be due Friday, February 6.

Math: Students continued to practice division using Khan Academy. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:
