Spelling: We reviewed the list of contractions we made earlier. Here are the lists we made:

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on making connections as a reading strategy.

Writing: Students continued to collect research for their I-Search projects. View our I-Search 2010 Research website. Here are more details about the I-Search project. Our general timeline :

  1. Week 1: Collect research
  2. Week 2: Select research, plan presentation, start draft of presentation
  3. Week 3: Finalize presentation, present at our I-Search Conference

Math: Students continued to use the Partial Products method of multiplication. Here’s a video tutorialHomework is to a 10-problem multiplication worksheet.

Science: None due to library.

    Social Studies: We read Ox-Cart Man and looked at how his family exhanged good and services for money.

    Spelling: None today due to the half-day schedule.

    Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

    Reading: Today, students finished their Literature Circles project presentations. View some videos and photos of the projects below:

    Writing: None today due to the half-day schedule.

    The novel project that students have been working on is due Monday, March 29.

    Math: None today due to the half-day schedule.

    Science: Students worked in their groups to write their  Space Fashion Show script. Here is more about this project. The Space Fashion Show will be on Wednesday at 10am in the small gym.

    Social Studies: None today due to the half-day schedule.

    Class activities for Thursday, November 12

    Spelling:  Students completed a spelling and skill test today.

    Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 21-23 are available and due Friday.

    Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on making inferences using clues from the text.

    Writing: None today due to technology.

    The next piece of writing will be a fiction piece, due Monday, November 30. Students should be drafting by now.

    Math: None today due to practice for the Fourth Grade Musical.

    Science: Students completed an experiment using graduated cylinders to measure and mix colored water. The result was a spectrum of colored water. The students then measured the amount of colored water in each container.

    Social Studies: We finished learning about immigration and migration to Michigan. We found out that immigrants and African Americans came to Michigan for factory jobs and more freedom. Students completed the SQ3R (survey, question, read, recite, review) organizer and it was collected for a grade.
