Class activities for Tuesday, May 16
Reading: Today was a reading day for Literature Circles groups. We also read some of our shared reading book, Esperanza Rising.
Language Arts: We began a unit on poetry by learning about three important ingredients to poems: imagery, emotion, and music (a sing-song, rhythmic quality). The last piece of writing will be due June 2 and will be a collection of poems.
Spelling: Students took a spelling test today.
The Level Four Core Word list is an option for continued practice.
Math: Students received a new math journal and we began a study on fractions. Today, students reviewed what fractions mean. The top number indicates the number of pieces one has, and the bottom number is the number of pieces there are in a whole thing. Homework is to complete math journal pp. 189-192.
Science: Today was our Space Fashion Show!
Social Studies: We reviewed what the Northwest Passage was, learned about a French explorer named Etienne Brule, and learned that Sault Ste. Marie means St. Marys rapids.
