June 1st, 2006
Health: We focused today on how the body is affected by tobacco, alcohol, inhalants, marijuana and cocaine. Students created posters to communicate what the law says about these drugs, how the body can be damaged, what the drugs look like, and how abusing these drugs can affect daily living.
Language Arts: The last piece of writing is due tomorrow, June 2, and will be a collection of poems.
Math: Today students practiced converting mixed numbers into improper fractions (1 1/2 = 3/2)
Science: We reviewed the characteristics of a solid, liquid and gas; and learned the names melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation for changes in the states of matter. A MiniQuiz over states of matter will be tomorrow.
Social Studies: None due to attending the Fifth Grade Music program.
- End of the Year Pot Luck! Our class will be having a Pot Luck lunch on Thursday, June 8, starting at 1:00 pm. Students volunteered to bring a main dish, side dish, dessert, drink or utensils. Ask your student what they volunteered, and let me know if there are any adjustments that need to be made. We would love for you to come eat with us, and watch or help with our crazy games!
- Our class will be going to Rollhaven Monday afternoon. Click here for the permission slip.
- Our class is also tentatively scheduled to have a Poetry Slam at the Miller Road Border’s on Tuesday, June 6, from noon to 2:30 pm. Here is the permission slip. Let me know if you would like to chaperone. Family and friends are invited to hear our class read the poetry we have worked on!
