UPDATED: Class activities for Wednesday, May 16

Spelling: We reviewed common spelling patterns for the /er/ soft syllable ending: er, or, ar. The unit 11 worksheets are available and can be printed from here.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on visualizing.    

Writing: Students started prewriting and drafting a poem, trying to include at least one of the three ingredients of a poem: music, emotion and imagery. A collection of poems will be due into portfolios on Friday, June 1.

Math: None today due to art and a fourth grade community meeting.

Science: Students continued working on their Space Fashion Show scripts. Students will work on their scripts for a final day tomorrow, and the fashion show will be Friday afternoon. Students will need to make a costume at home. Click here for more information. Homework is to finish a crossword puzzle about the movements of the moon and earth. 

Social Studies: None today due to art and a fourth grade community meeting. The social studies test has been moved to tomorrow.

Spelling: Students learned about common spelling patterns for the /er/ soft syllable ending: er, or, ar. The unit 11 worksheets are available and can be printed from here.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on questioning.    

Writing: We started a unit on poetry today by talking about the three ingredients of a poem: music, emotion and imagery. Not all poems have all three, but every poem has at least one. A collection of poems will be due into portfolios on Friday, June 1.

Math: We finished working on the equivalent fractions chart (pp. 356-357). Homework is to finish Journal p. 205 and StudyLink 7.6.

Science: Students started working on their Space Fashion Show script. Students will work on their scripts tomorrow and Thursday, and the fashion show will be Friday afternoon. Students will need to make a costume at home. Click here for more information. 

Social Studies: We finished learning about pioneer life in Michigan and then reviewed for the social studies test tomorrow.

Class activities for Monday, May 14

Spelling: Today students played contractions tic-tac-toe. The unit 11 worksheets were also made available and can be printed from here.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday. 

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on connections.

Writing: None due to technology. In technology, students are typing their Take a Stand persuasive writing pieces and emailing them to the editor at the Flint Journal.

Math: Students used fraction cards to located and name equivalent fractions (1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6). Homework is to finish Journal pp. 357-357.

Science: We took notes in our minibook about how the earth moves (365 days for one revolution around the sun, 24 hours for one rotation) and how the moon moves (about one month to rotate and revolve around the earth).

We also began the Space Fashion Show project (click here for more information). Students are working in groups to write a fashion show script and design a costume that tells the class about the sun, moon or earth. Students will work this week in class on their scripts. Work on the costume will need to be done at home. The Space Fashion Show will be on Friday at 2:00 and will be equal to a test grade.

Social Studies: We learned about what it would have been like to live as a pioneer in a Michigan forest.
