Class activities for Wednesday, January 9 and Thursday, January 10
***A guest teacher was with us yesterday, so those activities are included in today’s post.***
Spelling: Yesterday and today, students reviewed the soft g sound (/j/) and saw that the -dge ending is used for short vowels, and the -ge ending is used for other vowel sounds.
Cursive: Cursive pages 50-52 are available and due tomorrow.
Reading: Yesterday was a discussion day and today was a reading day in Literature Circles.
Writing: Yesterday was the final drafting day, and today was a revising day for our Military Thank You class book. Students are working on poems, thank you letters, short stories, story dialogues, post cards or letter exchanges with a fictitious soldier, or pledges.
Each student will write and illustrate a page of the book. The page can also be submitted for the last portfolio piece, due January 17.
The title of the book has been selected:
Freedom Fighters: Our way of saying thank you to our troops
Contest entries for the book’s cover illustration, dedication page, and interior illustration are due on Monday.
Math: Yesterday, students practiced solving open sentences (5 + x = 7, x = 2). Homework was to complete Journal pp. 70-71. Today we reviewed this week’s math assignments. Homework is Math Boxes 3.10, except for box 4. We will have a MiniQuiz tomorrow over number stories and open sentences.
Science: Yesterday students reviewed electricity and safety with an Etch-a-Sketch organizer. This was homework if not finished. No science today due to library.
Social Studies: Yesterday students learned about Michigan’s natural resources. Homework was to finish an SQ3R organizer. No social studies today due to discussing our class’ rather poor behavior choices yesterday with the guest.
