Class activities for Tuesday, May 27
Spelling: We reviewed rules for making plural nouns: berry/berries, dog/dogs, box/boxes, sheep/sheep, mouse/mice. This will be the skill test for tomorrow’s spelling test.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: We discussed our final writing project of the year, a compare and contrast piece called Find It, Decide It.
Students will work with a partner to make a decision (which CD to buy, which restaurant to go to, which vacation to take, which game to buy, which book to read, which movie to watch). Students will use the internet to find information to help them make their decision, and MrHowd.com Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com) or Sites (sites.mrhowd.com) will be used to collaborate on the project.
This piece will be due Friday, June 6. Click here for more information.
Math: We practiced solving “fractions of” problems, such as 1/3 of 12 or 2/5 of 20. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 193-194.
Science: We watched a DVD clip to see that the sun is really a small star compared to some in our galaxy (Betelgeuse is 600 times the size of the sun). See below for a chart of star sizes:
Social Studies: We learned that a compromise was reached in the Toledo War that gave the Toledo strip to Ohio the Upper Peninsula to Michigan. With this resolved, Michigan became a state in 1837.
