Class activities for Wednesday, May 28
Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some groups practiced synthesizing and determining importance as reading strategies.
Writing: Students continued to work on the final writing project of the year, a compare and contrast piece called Find It, Decide It. Today, partners were selected and groups worked on the question they would like to answer.
An overview of the project:
Students will work with a partner to make a decision (which CD to buy, which restaurant to go to, which vacation to take, which game to buy, which book to read, which movie to watch). Students will use the internet to find information to help them make their decision, and MrHowd.com Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com) or Sites (sites.mrhowd.com) will be used to collaborate on the project.
This piece will be due Friday, June 6. Click here for more information.
Math: We reviewed “fractions of” problems and started working with addition and subtraction of fractions. Homework is to finish Math Boxes 7.2, not including box 4.
Science: None today due to extra time with Literature Circles.
Social Studies: We reviewed for tomorrow’s social studies test over these concepts:
- Northwest Ordinance of 1787
- Michigan becomes a territory
- War of 1812
- Erie Canal
- Toledo War
