Spelling: We practiced proofreading and correcting for spelling, punctuation and word use errors.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of at least seven words each are due Friday.
Reading: None today due to a slushie party in the courtyard for a student’s birthday.
Writing: Students continued to work on the final writing project of the year, a compare and contrast piece called Find It, Decide It. Today, students continued to refine their questions and started to look for information to help them make their decision. Students should have their questions finalized by tomorrow in order to have enough time to finish their project.
An overview of the project:
Students will work with a partner to make a decision (which CD to buy, which restaurant to go to, which vacation to take, which game to buy, which book to read, which movie to watch). Students will use the internet to find information to help them make their decision, and MrHowd.com Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com) or Sites (sites.mrhowd.com) will be used to collaborate on the project.
This piece will be due Friday, June 6. Click here for more information.
Math: Students used differently-shaped pattern blocks to determine fractions. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 196-198.
Science: None today due to viewing an episode of A Pet Story from Animal Planet about “Gabe and Izzy,” a dog and its owner who both have disabilities. We will have an assembly next week featuring Gabe and Izzy.
Social Studies: Students completed a test today over these concepts:
- Northwest Ordinance of 1787
- Michigan becomes a territory
- War of 1812
- Erie Canal
- Toledo War
