May 5th, 2009
Class activities for Tuesday, May 5
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.
Reading: Students previewed new Literature Circles books.
Writing: We learned that a poem can be written from several fragments (not whole sentences). Here is a fragment poem we wrote as a class:
Getting Ready for the First Day of School
Getting up
Getting ready
Feeling nervous
Mom yelling,
“Get a move on!”
Eating breakfast
Brushing teeth
Dad yelling,
“Catch the bus!”
Grab your bag
Out the door
On the bus
Back seat
Breathing hard
Stomach aching
Driver yells,
“We’re at school!”
Our next portfolio piece will be a collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.
Math: We continued to divide using multiples of ten. Homework is to finish Journal p. 147-149.
Science: We learned about the size, color and energy of the sun.
Social Studies: We finished learning about Pontiac’s Rebellion. Homework is to complete the SQ3R organizer, writing at least one question and answer for each section of the reading.
