November 15th, 2010
Class activities for Monday, November 15
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: We talked about using a consistent tense in writing. Most writers use the past tense; but whatever tense is used, it’s important to use the same tense in a writing piece.
Our next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Monday, November 29. Students should be drafting at this time.
Math: Students were introduced to using a protractor to measure the degrees of an angle.
Science: We reviewed the function of various body systems today.
Social Studies: We continued to learn about some changes that happened in Europe in the 1400s and 1500s that affected the exploration of the New World:
- Spain was reconquered from Muslim control and put under Christian rule;
- Spain financed Christopher Columbus’ trip to the New World;
- Martin Luther started the Reformation of the Roman Church and religious wars ensued;
- Protestant and Catholic countries warred against each other and tried to create state religions.
Today, we discussed why religious wars happened after Martin Luther protested against the Roman Church.
