Class activities for Thursday, January 27
Spelling: We reviewed homophones, words that sound the same but are spelled differently.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: Today, we at more examples of Choose Your Own Adventure stories and how their leads were written. Students spent time drafting the lead of their story.
Our next project is a Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook, due Friday, February 11. Students will publish their adventure as a website at sites.mrhowd.com. Students should be prewriting or drafting at this time.

- Look at an Underground Railroad Choose Your Own Adventure website.
- Look through the Underground Railroad Interactive History Adventure book (hint: search for “the end” to see some of the endings of the book).
- Look at some examples of different kinds of endings in a Choose Your Own Adventure Story.
- View the titles of all the Choose Your Own Adventure books to get adventure topic ideas.
- Play Zork, a text-based computer game. Here is a list of commands and directions. Here is a map of the dungeon if you get stuck or lost.
- Find a complete list of resources here.
Math: We reviewed interpreting the remainder of division problems.
Science: We completed the human variation experiment started earlier this week. Homework is to finish the analysis on p. 31.
Social Studies: Students answered the question, “What challenges faced the early English settlements?”
