Class activities for Thursday, February 24
Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some students worked on making connections as a reading strategy.
Writing: Students worked on developing the topic of their persuasive letter and collecting research. We were limited by technical difficulties in our computer lab for the second day in a row. Hopefully, the computers will be functional again so that we can meet the deadline for this project.
The Letter to the Editor persuasive writing project will be due March 7. Students will be asked to select a public policy issue and make an argument for or against it. Here are a few websites showing public policy issues:
- ProCon.org – Pros and Cons of Controversial Issues
- Public Agenda for Citizens: Understanding the Issues
- Student Voices-News and Discussion on Current Events and Politics
- PollingReport.com Issues
Here’s an overview of this persuasive letter project, and here’s a checklist to help with writing the letter.
Math: We reviewed measuring inches with a ruler using fractions. Homework is to finish Journal p. 129.
Science: Students worked on planning an experiment about catching a ball.
Social Studies: Groups learned about their chosen American colony and wrote notes. Homework is to finish Reading Notes 7 if not done in class.
