Get your web license!

Students, the internet is a great tool for fun and work! But, like any tool, it can be used the right way or the wrong way. Cars are very helpful tools, but they can be dangerous if not used the right way. That’s way people that drive cars must get their driver’s license.

Now it’s your turn to get your license! Your web license! See the links below for where to start:

Here’s your mission:
  1. Get your Web License to you can be a safe driver on the internet.
  2. Become a Webonaut and explore the web!

Class activities for Monday, September 12

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Spelling: None today due to library. You can view or download the yearly spelling list here.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 12-14 are available in class and due on Friday.

Reading: None today due to extra time with writing.

Writing: Students made their writer’s folders today. This is the folder that students will use for drafting their writing pieces (until we use technology later in the year). Students will likely need to bring their writer’s folders home almost daily in order to finish a piece of writing by the due date.

I also have students a colored manila folder. This will be used as their writing portfolio and students will place finished writing pieces into this folder. I asked students to take their portfolios home and decorate them with drawings, stickers, pictures, or anything else that is appropriate for school and lays flat. The portfolios will be laminated later. Homework is to finish decorating portfolios by Friday.

The first piece of writing, a personal narrative about a memory or event, is due into portfolios on Friday, September 23.

Math: None today.

Science: We finalized our class rules today. Rather than have a long list of rules that we could never remember, we found one rule that will work for everything. Here’s our one class rule:

Follow the High Fives

Social Studies: We looked at some images from the September, 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Behavior Update:

  • Yellow magnets: 1
  • Orange magnets: 0
  • Red magnets: 0
  • STAR Awards: 0
  • Magnets moved this week (goal: ?): 1

Class activities for Friday, September 9

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Today was Team Day! Students worked in teams to solve several challenges:

  • Students had to “stick” their ankles to the student next to them in line, and the entire line of students had to walk forward without letting their feet separate from the people next to them.
  • Students had to untie a “human knot” of tangled arms.
  • Students had to lower a hula hoop with their team each only using one finger to hold it up. No fingers could separate from the hula hoop.
  • Students had to untie a knot in a rope around a tree by moving their bodies through the know!

It wasn’t always easy, and there were some frustrations, but students solve the challenges by working hard and working as a team. Thanks to all the family volunteers that helped run the team activities! View some photos and videos of Team Day:
