January 6th, 2012
Class activities for Friday, January 6
Spelling: Students continued to make their Words to Learn lists by correcting words they missed on the last spelling test.
Cursive: Cursive pp. 57-59 are available and due Friday.
Reading: Students read their selected monologues aloud to the class.
Writing: We talked about organizing writing using paragraphs, chapters, or other sections to help the reader see the different ideas in a story.
The next piece of writing is a fiction story, due Friday, January 13. Students should be revising at this time.
Math: None today due to STAR Friday.
Science: We used a syringe to push air through a tube into a bottle of water. We noticed that the air pushed into the bottle forced the water out of another tube in the bottle. Air is matter because it takes up space in the bottle.
Social Studies: We learned about the ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada. When the gold mines closed and the economy changed, people lost their jobs and the town went vacant.
