Class activities for Wednesday, September 19
Spelling: We finished reviewing rules for adding suffixes onto base words. Today, we talked about changing the y to an i before adding any suffix other than –ing (carry/carrier/carrying) and adding –es for words that end in x, ch, sh, s and z.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Students read their novels and wrote questions, connections, illustrations and selected passages from their reading.
Writing: We talked about focusing on a narrow time in a story so that there is not too much to write about at once.
The first piece of writing, a personal narrative, will be due on Monday, September 24 (new date). Students should be revising or editing at this point.
Math: We reviewed comparing and ordering decimals by looking at each individual place value to find the larger digit. Homework is to finish Journal P1-5.
Science: We reviewed measuring volume with graduated cylinders and weight with spring scales.
Social Studies: We started to learn about how American Indians had to move to new environments and adapt to their new homes. Homework is to finish Folder p. 9 that was started in class.
