Class activities for Thursday, October 18

Spelling: None today due to extra time working on writing.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on determining importance as a reading strategy.

Writing: We talked about using choice adjectives in writing. Adjectives answer the question, “What kind?”. What kind of car, house, or food? A red car, large house, or delicious food?

The next piece of writing, a fictionalized personal narrative, will be due on Friday, November 2. Students should be working on their drafts at this point.

Math: We reviewed for Monday’s math test about adding and subtracting decimals. A practice test can be found on pp. 58-59 of the math book.

Science: None today due to an extra time with social studies. We’ll have extra time for science tomorrow.

Social Studies: We learned and wrote notes about the American Indians of the Great Plains, Eastern Woodlands and Southeast. Homework is to finish the reading notes in Notebook pp. 16-17, if not done in class. Here’s what we learned about the different regions of the American Indians:
